School Council

The School Council was formed in 1998 and the Constitution was formally approved in April 1998.

For 2006, members of the School Council include the following parent representatives: Graham Fuller, Trevor Marett, Petrina Maizey and Faye Haylock

The council meets at least four times per year and this usually results in one meeting per term. The role of the School Council is to contribute to the strategic direction of the school and monitor the school's progress. More specifically, the Council performs the following functions:

Monitoring the school's strategic direction

Approving plans and school policies of a strategic nature plus other documents affecting strategic matters including the annual estimate of revenue and expenditure for the school

Monitoring the implementation of these plans and policies

Advising the principal about strategic matters.

There are also certain things that the Council does not become involved in and these include:

The Principal's day-to-day management of the school and its curriculum

Making decisions about teaching and learning (eg teaching style, resources etc.)

Controlling funds and property or entering into contracts.

The School Council performs a vital role in the school and participation in the meetings is a rewarding experience for all. We encourage parents to consider becoming a part of the group at some stage in the future.

Membership positions become vacant on a "rollover" basis in the middle of each year and are advertised in the school newsletter. A formal process of selection is outlined in the Constitution.
