Youth Health Nurse It is said that there is only one stage of life more difficult than being a teenager or being a parent of one. I'm sure there are many parents out there who would agree with this statement. Adolescence can be a difficult time for everyone involved - for the young person going though it and for those who live and work with that person. There is no magic formula or 'quick fix' for dealing perfectly with the highs and lows of adolescence. A major part of my role at Windaroo Valley High is to work with adolescents helping them to access services in the local community that may aid this transition from childhood to adulthood. I began in this role in July 1999 with a vague idea of my role and an empty filing cabinet. Since that time I have defined my role focusing on major health issues through group work and projects in the school environment and projects in the school environment and providing consultations to staff, students and their families. I am currently working with Windaroo on several identified health concerns by running groups with students and classroom teaching in girl's issues, eating disorders and body image, sexual health, teacher stress programs. As a Queensland Health Employee, I have found it challenging yet rewarding working within this school environment. The students are an inspiration. I am honoured to be a part of your community and look forward to being involved again in the New Year.
